When you have decided to have an Aga the next step is to do your own survey. This is in numbered sequence so that you can tick off as you proceed or strike out that not applicable.
1. Decide where you want to place it in your house and with modern trends that may not necessarily be in your kitchen! If you have a choice an inner wall has the advantage of directly warming the adjacent room. Your brochure will give the measurements of the model you have chosen. Next you must choose the type of flue.
2. Conventional flue is the simplest and cheapest and unless the appearance is an obstacle should always be given the first consideration. Normal 125mm flue material is used. 45 deg bends are permissible 600mm above the stove outlet. Where will the chimney run? Is the location not single storied? Are their any brick walls or other obstacles in the loft if so where? The chimney must terminate higher than the ridge of your roof to prevent down draughts. An outside wall location might result in an abnormal length of unsupported chimney above your roof to achieve this.
3. Balanced flue can only be used if it is located on the out-side wall. You will also need a low current electrical outlet. The disadvantage of this method that it needs an initial rectangular hole made in the wall of 150 HX 250mm W by your builders who then must make good after installation. Is the outside wall the front of your house and can it be easily restored and the appearance of 2 pipes 28mm D and 127mm D side by side acceptable? One must not hide it with vegetation for fear of blocking.
4. Power flue is then the final answer as the fumes are all ducted out through a single 50mm stainless steel pipe to the nearest outside wall and may be run like a large water pipe at any level from kick-board height to ceiling or even through the floor. You will also need a low current electrical outlet.

Any adjacent furniture must not be installed until after your Aga is in so that you are not left with small dirt filling spaces.
